Population growth and economic development have brought a high increase in the generation of municipal solid waste (MSW). The aim this study is to determine characterization rural parish Ecuadorian Amazon. A survey was applied random sampling carried out 51 households. results obtained determined that 0.51 kg cap-1 day-1 apparent density 191.86 m-3. different types generated were characterized, percentages 66% organic matter, 9% plastic, 7% glass, paper, 1% metals, 3% hygienic waste, wood, textiles other varied materials. In addition, means analysis performed with nonparametric Wilcoxon Rank-sum test (Mann Whitney) using STATA software version 12. showed no significant differences (p value> 0.05) daily both periods (April / September 2015). values surveys highlight strong community acceptance towards recycling programs separation at source. they request greater involvement authorities for improvement current management parish. Finally, more studies are recommended cities communities Ecuador on determination amount composition since there many limitations information, which affects creation effective disposal systems.
